VIDEO: Tearful Oprah Announces Decision
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, Syndication, Oprah Winfrey Show, News, Video,
This is how you make an anti-climatic statement.
After waiting until the very end of today’s broadcast to formally announce her already-leaked decision, Oprah Winfrey offered very little to her audience (aside from tears) that we haven’t already heard. Although she said she wanted to the viewers to hear the message “directly” from her, she never once did end the “conjecture” or “speculation” about her future.
Is it possible the talk show has no idea what she’ll be doing two years from now? Is she simply going to take a break and just go with the flow? Well, considering she’s in the process of starting OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, that’s highly doubtful. Besides—who’s going to keep Gayle King employed?

The Oprah Winfrey Show to End in 2011
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, Syndication, Oprah Winfrey Show, Cancellations, News,
It looks as if 25 will be Oprah Winfrey’s lucky number.
In a meeting with her staff members today, Winfrey officially announced that her daytime talk show will turn off the lights in two years. That same news will be delivered on her program tomorrow. The 2011 end date means The Oprah Winfrey Show will close after celebrating its silver anniversary.
This decision comes after weeks of increased speculation about her future. It has been rumored for some time that Oprah would simply take the show out of syndication and bring in to OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network.

Sneak Peek: Sarah Palin’s Interview with Oprah

Carrie Prejean, take notes. This is how your “hero” Sarah Palin addresses difficult questions.
Based on snippets released, it appears the long-awaited interview between Oprah Winfrey and the former Alaskan governor was a lot less tense than some may have feared. The chat, which covered a number of topics, will air one day before Palin’s book, Going Rogue, is released.

Oprah Snags Sarah Palin Interview
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, Syndication, Oprah Winfrey Show, Gossip, News,
Oh what a difference a year makes.
Two of the biggest female names of 2008 will finally be sitting down for a chat in 2009. Mark your calendars: November 16 will be the date Sarah Palin has her first one-on-one with Oprah Winfrey.
Before last November’s elections, Oprah - who publicly endorsed Barack Obama - had been accused of showing favoritism because she chose not to welcome the VP candidate on her show. Winfrey’s reason? She didn’t want to use her program as a political platform. (Although President Obama had been a guest on her program, his appearances came before he decided to run for office.) Unfortunately, Oprah’s explanation didn’t satisfy many of her female fans.

Tyson and Holyfield to Reunite in Oprah’s Ring
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, Syndication, Oprah Winfrey Show, Gossip, Video,
Oprah Winfrey really knows how to milk her ratings cows. Recently, we’ve seen her interviews with Whitney Houston and Mackenzie Phillips stretch out over two separate hours. Now, Mike Tyson is getting his Round 2.
This Friday, the former heavyweight champion will be sharing the stage with a very special guest: Evander Holyfield. Yes, that would be the same boxer Tyson bit - twice - during their June 1997 fight.

Mad Men Featured on ‘60s-Themed Oprah
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Drama, Talk Shows, Cable, Syndication, Oprah Winfrey Show,
Could Oprah Winfrey do for Mad Men what she does for books?
This coming Monday, the talk show hostess and her upswept hair will dedicate the entire broadcast to a particular decade. The show, entitled “Oprah Goes Back in Time: The 60s,” will include appearances from both January Jones and Jon Hamm.
The hour will also feature items that would have been Winfrey’s favorite during that time. (I’m guessing the audience won’t want any of those freebies.)
Maybe Oprah could have Dr. Phil talk to Don Draper about his daddy issues and extramarital affairs?

Oprah News: Dr. Oz, 30 Rock
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Daytime, Prime Time, Talk Shows, NBC, Syndication, Oprah Winfrey Show, Gossip, News,
Being one of Oprah‘s friends definitely has its benefits.
Since the talk show queen was instrumental in getting both Dr. Phil and Rachael Ray their own shows, you knew it was just a matter of time before she moved on to her next pet project. This time, she’ll be responsible for making us sick of Dr. Mehmet Oz.
Up until now, I’ve really liked the doctor. The 47-year-old frequent contributor is very much like that McGraw guy; he tells it like it is. And guests aren’t afraid to ask him their most embarrassing questions because he’s pleasantly non-judgmental. (Remember when he hosted that males-only show solo?) But as likable as the medical expert is, could we tolerate seeing him on a regular basis?
Word has it the latest talk show competitor will hit the airwaves come Fall 2009. Start prepping your medical questions now.
